The Wakletts, four brothers, began building cars under the Ginetta name in the mid-1950s. They released the G4 in 1961, which came with either a 1000cc or 1500cc Ford engine.

In 1963 the car was homologated with the 1000 cc engine, and due to its low weight and strong chassis, G4 owners were very successful.

The factory noticed the success of its customers racing the G4 and began attempting to offer a factory sponsored G4. This led to the development of the G4R, a purpose-built racing car with several improved components, including a Ginetta-developed independent rear axle with internal disc brakes and the installation of a 1600 cc Ford Lotus twin-cam engine. The car was an instant racing success and about a dozen G4Rs were built. At 450kg, the G4R offers fantastic handling and is known to be able to beat much more powerful cars.

The car for sale has a correct Ginetta tube frame with the correct round tubes and is equipped with a factory hardtop.

The car was prepared by Coccia racing in Germany and is currently in an important racing car collection in Italy.

The best lap time in Spa is just under 3.00 minutes.
