Zusätzliche Informationen

“The Carl Swanson Morgan”

1964 Morgan Plus 4 Super Sport spec.

Rare Low-Line model

Original Period Race Car, Full History documentation

Most successful USA Race Morgan in period

Fully rebuilt, new Engine

FIA HTP until 2029

This handsome Morgan was delivered new to Lew Spencer importers in California in 1964 and was immediately used in the SCCA's West Coast Division by its first owner, Carl Swanson. Swanson was very successful, winning the West Coast E-production title in 1965, 1966 and 1967. As a result, Swanson was invited three times to the annual "American Road Race of Champions" between the various division winners at the end of the season.

The 1965 edition was held at Daytona and Swanson finished 2nd behind an Austin Healey.

The 1966 edition was held at Riverside (Swanson's home track), where he led 14 Porsches to the finish and was crowned national champion. We dare say that the Swanson-Morgan is the winningest Morgan in US racing history.

The next recorded owner was Ron Fedele, who was involved in an accident and had the car converted as an Alloy "Supersports Low-Line". The car then became part of the Blackhawk Museum, where it remained until the late 1980s, when it was freed from captivity by Don Queen of California. Don commissioned a well-documented historic racing conversion from Chris Lawrence and drove the car throughout the United States until it was sold to fellow Californian Doug Sallen. Don Queen and Doug Sallen drove the car continuously until 2008, when the current owner purchased the car and became the fifth owner in 60 years. In 2020 the car was completely dismantled and rebuilt to perfection by Soldeo in the Netherlands. Particular attention was paid to lightening the car to its homologated weight of 760 kg.

Since then, the car has only been used at Le Mans Classic 2022 and 2023 and in the Peter Auto Sixties endurance series in Mugello and Spa.

Included in the sale are 4 folders with documents dating back to 1964. Included are newspaper clippings, race results, invoices, pictures and a detailed history report by Morgan Club historian Hermen Pol. Also included are the original magnesium wheels, which can be seen in the attached picture.
