Description
The BMW E24 is a four-seater luxury coupé from BMW and the first model in the 6 Series. Production began in October 1975 as the successor to the E9, and it was launched on the market in March 1976.
Stability, endurance and good handling were the virtues of the BMW 635 CSI touring car, a successful endurance racer in both Group A and Group 2. The British competition, in the form of Rover and Jaguar, had more powerful V8 and V12 engines, and the Swedish Volvo engines were even equipped with turbochargers, yet the BMW 6 Series celebrated numerous successes in motorsport. Undoubtedly, some well-known racing drivers who took the wheel of the 6 Series also contributed to this. What is special about the Group 2 cars is that there were only a handful of them, while there were just under a hundred Group A 6 Series cars.
----------------------------
This 6 Series with chassis number 635180 is one of the most successful touring cars of its time. It won almost every race it finished in the 1980 ETCC season. Although it took first place in four races during the season, this was only enough for second place in the overall standings at the end of the season.
The first race of the season at Monza was a great success for BMW Italia, as they took first place with a lead of over 20 seconds ahead of the Mercedes driven by Schinkentanz/Denzel. The next round at Vallelunga went just as smoothly as Monza, with another first place finish. The third race at Brands Hatch was not a glorious moment for the team, as Neger revved the engine too high when he went on the attack in the first lap.
Due to crankshaft damage, the car did not finish at the Salzburgring. Things went very well for BMW Italia in Brno until the car collided with an Audi while lapping it. The third victory of the season followed in Enna, where the car was out of reach for the competition. But the next setback for the team was not far off, as the rear axle broke on the Nordschleife. The fourth victory of 1980 came shortly afterwards at Silverstone.
The final race in Zolder was a real ordeal for both the team and the BMW. Due to the fact that the team had few spare parts, it had to build an engine from two remaining power units. But the team was unlucky again, as a rocker arm broke during the warm-up lap. In the race, they trailed behind on five cylinders and finished in sixth place.

New engine, straight from the test bench with 385 hp (283 kW).
Two sets of brand new BBS rims and some spare parts are available. In addition, just over €200,000 has been invested in the complete restoration of the 635 CSI to its original specifications. The restoration was carried out by none other than Rudi Walch, owner of RWS Motorsport. Invoices are available for all work carried out on the BMW.
After the restoration was completed, the car was only used at the Dix Milles Tours du Castellet and the Spa Classic.
