The Porsche 993 Cup 3.8 RSR

The RSR was developed by the Porsche motorsport department specifically for the participation of Porsche customer racing teams in international endurance races such as the American IMSA GT series and the European GT series. From the outset, it was intended for use in 24-hour endurance races such as Daytona, Spa and Le Mans. Like the Cup car on which it was based, the RSR's standard specification included a fully welded roll cage, aluminium bonnet, front strut brace, full ball-bearing suspension, special front spoiler and adjustable rear wing, battery switch and fire suppression system.

The RSR specification consisted of a number of enhancements that were fitted as standard to these cars. These included a two-way adjustable Bilstein suspension with adjustable rebound and compression damping, wing extensions as on the GT2 to allow wider wheels, larger 380 mm front brakes as on the GT2, driver-adjustable front stabilizers and the all-important M64/75 engine with the G50/34 gearbox.

The 3.8-litre engine was a comprehensively revised racing engine with stronger, lighter valves, camshafts and special pistons and cylinders. To maximize performance, the intake and exhaust manifolds were also thoroughly redesigned and connected to 6 individual throttle bodies. The power is transmitted via a single-mass flywheel to a unique six-speed manual gearbox of type G50/34.

Porsche produced a total of 45 vehicles, of which 30 were built in 1997 and 15 in 1998. The chassis numbers of the 1997 cars end with the digits from 98061 to 98090, while the vehicles built in 1998 end with 98016 to 98030.

This example was completed on 10 December 1997 and delivered to its first owner in Montreal, Canada in 1998. All transport documents from this transaction are available. However, the first owner only kept the 993 for one year and sold it for financial reasons with a mileage of only 200 km on 13 July 1999 to a personal friend from Montreal, with whom we are in contact. He kept the car for more than a decade. During this time, he used the RSR at many racing events. Below you can see all known entries, which were predominantly PCA, Canadian Challenge and later also historic races:

During this time, the owner took good care of the car, as can be seen from the many invoices. According to him, a complete engine overhaul was carried out after approx. 10,000 km. After almost two decades in North America, the 911 found its new home in the Kingdom of Bahrain in 2015 with a mileage of around 12,800 kilometres. There, the vehicle was in the possession of a well-known collector for several years, with whom we have had a friendly relationship for several years. In 2021, the vehicle was finally purchased by our company and subsequently brought to Germany on 17 August 2021 with a mileage of 14,107 km. Since then, the vehicle has been in our own collection and has only been moved for a photo shoot. After in-depth research and a technical inspection, this rarity is being offered for sale with more than 300 pages of documentation.
